Community Statement on Racial Injustice

The Village of West Dundee President and Board of Trustees are committed to serving all residents, businesses and visitors to our community equally and with respect, and we insist that this commitment be reflected in the performance of every Village employee.

As a Board, we reject any act of violence or discrimination against another person in our community. The Village Board is extremely proud of the high standards established by the West Dundee Police Department and their efforts to build positive relationships throughout our community. Our Police Department has and will continue to serve our community with compassion, empathy, acceptance and understanding.

Racism is far reaching and goes beyond policing. Acts of racial injustice have no place in our society and it is our responsibility as a community to foster an inclusive environment where all people feel welcome, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or cultural background. As a Village, we strive to practice inclusivity in every aspect of service to our community, and with every interaction by our Village employees.

We pledge as Village leaders to work hard, take action and hold ourselves accountable for providing an inclusive community, free of prejudice, where we value and celebrate our differences, and raise awareness for injustices that exist in our society. Civic trust is a privilege that must continue to be earned by the Village on a daily basis. We continue to try to earn that trust and to foster a safe and equitable community.

We call upon all West Dundee residents and business owners to work toward a Village, a State and Nation in which every person is treated with dignity and kindness, acceptance and compassion.

Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor
The Longmeadow Parkway Fox River Bridge Corridor is a proposed four-lane Fox River Bridge crossing and four-lane arterial roadway corridor with a median, approximately 5.6 miles in length, designed to alleviate traffic congestion in northern Kane County.

The proposed road passes through portions of the Villages of Algonquin, Carpentersville and Barrington Hills, as well as unincorporated areas of Kane County. The western terminus is at Huntley Road west of Randall Road, approximately 1,300 feet northwest of the Huntley/Boyer intersection. From Huntley Road to the Fox River, the corridor primarily traverses mostly undeveloped properties or new subdivisions; these subdivisions were developed with a dedicated right-of-way to accommodate the proposed corridor. After crossing the river, the corridor parallels existing Bolz Road, to the eastern project terminus at Illinois Route 62.

The Village of West Dundee, along with Kane County, McHenry County, Carpentersville, Algonquin, East Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Gilberts and Huntley have passed resolutions in support of the bridge/corridor over the course of many years since the project began.

Below are some key pieces of information regarding the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor:
- The Rt. 72 (West Dundee), Main St. (Carpentersville) and Rt. 62 (Algonquin) bridges are currently double their capacity.
- Population west of the Fox River is expected to increase 150,000 by 2040, further impacting traffic congestion and the resulting effects on the economy and community.
- There have been no new river crossings been built in Northern Kane County since the I-90 Tollway Bridge in the 1960's.
- The project location has been approved by the IL Dept. of Natural Resources and the Army Corp of Engineers and is the only approved bridge location between Carpentersville and the McHenry County line.
- More than $35 million has been spent on engineering and land acquisition and 60% of the land has been purchased, to date.
- The project will bring 4000+ jobs to Kane County.

General Maintenance Code Enforcement
Based on direction from the Village Board and a focus on general aesthetics of the neighborhoods of West Dundee, the Village will be placing increased attention a number of common property maintenance code violations.

The areas of code enforcement that will be focused on include:
- Vehicles parked in driveways should not block the sidewalk, particularly during daylight hours, in order to promote a pedestrian-friendly environment throughout the Village.
- Refuse containers should not be placed curbside any earlier than the evening prior to collection. Typically, this is Thursday evening. During the week of the 6 major holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day), collection is moved to Saturday, in which case refuse containers should not be placed earlier than Friday evening.
- Garbage cans should not be stored along the front (street side) of your home, but rather along the side or in the rear yard.
- Grass and weeds within your individual lot should be properly maintained, and do not become overgrown or unsightly. These would include any planting beds, landscape areas or lawns.
- Outdoor fire pits must located in the rear yard and at least 20’ away from any structure or combustible material. No garbage or yard waste is permitted to be burned.
- RVs, boats and trailers may not be stored in any driveway for longer than 48 hours.

Fox Valley Regional Housing Study

In 2013, the Villages of West Dundee, East Dundee, Carpentersville and Elgin received grant funding to provide for a regional study regarding housing stock and projected future housing needs.

Through the study, present and future housing needs were analyzed utilizing multiple data sources and existing housing conditions in such areas as housing affordability, housing and transportation costs, and housing condition. Additionally, the capacity for new housing was reviewed by creating profiles of the workforce in the sub region and identification of industry sectors and commuting patterns, and; utilizing population, demographic and employment forecasts and determining potential new populations for each municipality and for the study area as a whole.

Board of Trustees & Village President

The Village of West Dundee is governed by a Village President and six-member Board of Trustees.
The Village Board holds regular meetings twice per month, typically on the first and third Mondays, and Committee of the Whole meetings are held as needed, typically on the second Monday of the month, at 7:30 at Village Hall (102 S Second St).

Holidays can impact the meeting schedule. Please view the the Community Calendar for upcoming meeting dates. In the event that a scheduled Board meeting is cancelled, notice will be posted to the front door of Village Hall and the online Community Calendar. Meeting Agendas and Minutes are available on the Meeting Agendas & Minutes page.

Regular Board Meetings enable the Board to vote on proposals, and provides a 30 minute period for questions and comments from the audience (5 minutes per individual). Committee of the Whole meetings are held for the purpose of Board discussion only.

The Village Board receives recommendations from Village Commissions and Staff in order to make appropriate decisions for the community on matters of policy, expenditures and more. To request that a topic be included on an upcoming agenda, please contact the Administration Department.

Members of the Board serve as liaisons to various Village Departments, Commissions, governmental bodies and the community at large. Below are the current liaison assignments:

The President and Board of Trustees are elected at-large on a nonpartisan basis for staggered four-year terms. Village Board elections are held in April of odd numbered years. West Dundee residents interested in running for the Village Board should contact Village Hall or the Kane County Elections Office for candidacy paperwork the previous September.
